Castle hike: Annweiler to Trifels, Pfalz - 8 km, 400 hm
Details
This weekend we are going to Annweiler again to explore the sites of three castles, situated on three hills next to each other.
This is a medium difficulty hike with a length of around 8 km and 400 m ascent.
Since it is a relatively short hike we can take some time in the castles and walking around the nice old town of Annweiler after the hike (maybe get some icecream).
I estimate we will be back in Annweiler between 4 and 5 pm.
If you want to go back early you can take a bus back from near Trifels castle.
The castles are (in order of visiting during the hike)
- Scharfenberg / Münz: some walls and a tower remaining
- Anebos: no ruins left, but we can see where the castle was built on top of rocks; optional easy climbing
- Trifels: an intact castles, partly rebuilt by the Nazis as an SS training centre.
Getting there:
- Let's meet in Karlsruhe Hbf, track 101, a bit before 11am.
- We're taking a train to Landau Hbf (direction Neustadt), departing 11:06,
- then changing to another train from Landau to Annweiler, 11:41,
- arriving in Annweiler at 11:59
- Coming by car? Please join us at Annweiler Bahnhof or let us know about your plans.
What to bring:
- water and snacks
- weather-appropriate clothing
- sturdy shoes
- ideally some cash for the castle ticket
