Hello Kubernauts!

I am happy to announce our second meetup and this time we will be having Ed Harrison from Project Calico talking about network policies in Kubernetes. He will also be showing a demo of the experimental network policy APIs in Kubernetes.

Rewe Digital was so kind to provide food for tonight: A large variation of Crêpes will be freshly made on-site - from sweet to hearty.

Schedule:

18:30h - Get-Together, Food, Networking & Welcome

19h - Talk #1 : Secure, Cloud-Native Networking (Ed Harrison)

19:45h - Break

20h - Talk #2: KubeCon EU wrap up (Daniel Sachse)

~ 20:15 - Networking

Talk #1 : Network policy and micro-segmentation in Kubernetes (Ed Harrison)

Networking is important. While this has always been true, as applications become more distributed and we enter the world of “cloud-native” computing with the growing roles containerisation and micro-services, the network between these pieces is becoming even more important. As the line between a developer and an operator becomes more blurred, having a networking solution which doesn’t require a networking degree to debug is critical. As the cost of computing resource drops and our ambitions grow, having a network which scales for tomorrow’s requirements is also key. Potentially most important, though, are the challenges and opportunities that micro-services provide in the realm of security. This presentation will talk through each of these areas, simplicity, scalability and security – but will particularly focus on the way in which the Kubernetes community is looking to add support for security “policy” as a first class citizen in the Kubernetes API.

About Ed Harrison:

Ed Harrison has been working in networking software development for nearly 20 years. He’s currently spending most of his time helping to spread the word about Project Calico, an open source approach to simple, scalable virtualised networking and micro-segmentation.
