🎙️Apache Arrow: Efficient In-Memory Format and Data Exchange with PyArrow.
SUMMARY
The speaker will be Raúl Cumplido (Scientific Software Engineer at QuantStack).
This talk introduces Apache Arrow, an open-source columnar, in-memory data format designed for high-performance analytics and efficient data exchange, and Pyarrow, its Python implementation. We will show why it has become the de facto standard for in-memory data representation and how to efficiently share data between systems leveraging Arrow's memory format interoperability.
We will highlight how the Apache Arrow in-memory format powers seamless integrations across a wide range of tools and frameworks, including Pandas, Polars, DuckDB, Velox, Iceberg, Datafusion, Spark, and more. Many of these projects use the format under the hood, often without users realizing it. We will present the project's newer developments and current status.

In this talk, we'll explore Apache Polaris (incubating), an exciting open source project designed to establish a standard lakehouse catalog for modern data architectures built on Apache Iceberg. We'll begin with an introduction to Apache Iceberg and how it's transforming data lakes into more reliable and performant lakehouses. Then we'll dive into the REST catalog specification that enables interoperability across platforms. The core of our discussion will focus on Polaris itself - its architecture, key features, and how it addresses critical governance challenges in the lakehouse ecosystem.
We'll examine Polaris' community-driven governance model and conclude with a roadmap of upcoming features and integration opportunities. Whether you're a data engineer, architect, or platform owner, you'll leave with a clear understanding of how Polaris is working to create a unified catalog standard in the rapidly evolving lakehouse landscape.
🎙️ Gophers Continuing Up the Iceberg (by Matt Topol)
Looking for a non-JVM solution to interact with Iceberg? Avoid spinning up a Spark cluster and use Iceberg with Go! The Golang implementation of Iceberg is continuing along with plenty of progress over the last year.
This talk will introduce classic use cases showing the beauty of utilizing Iceberg with Go, along with what features have been implemented since last year. We'll also cover the roadmap plan for the project in terms of feature support and plans.
