Virtues, comfort and the question of a good life

This week's event is going to be about the topic of leading a good life in the context of virtues on the one hand and comfort on the other hand.
Virtues, which in ancient Greek and Rome were considered cornerstones of a good life, are demanding some efforts from the ones who are striving to pursue them. Take for instance the classical cardinal virtues of fortitude, prudence, temperance and justice: none of them are coming without an ongoing endeavor. The same is true for virtues I omitted here for the sake of brevity.
Therefore although the concept of comfort is not the opposite of “virtues” both can be considered mutually exclusively since being comfortable hardly is associated with effort. As we are living in a society which arguably provides more comfort than ever before in history raises the question which place virtues might take in our lives.
