Über uns
Welcome to Philosophical Minds Zurich! We are a vibrant community of thinkers dedicated to exploring the rich tapestry of philosophical thought. While our roots lie in the timeless wisdom of the Stoics, we are passionate about delving into a wide array of philosophies and engaging with the ideas of diverse thinkers across history.
Beyond intellectual exchange, we're committed to practically applying insights in our lives. If you place a high value on the sharing and exploration of ideas within a supportive community, then this is the place for you.

Alles ansehen- The dark side of philosophy I – Reading lies (Bettina Stangneth)Kirche Bühl, Zürich12,00 CHF
Philosophy typically dedicates itself to the questions of good, truth, and beauty. For centuries, many brilliant minds spent hours and kilometres of paper thinking about those three elements. But what about their evil counterparts?
Join us in exploring the first evil counterpart: the lie! Guided by the German philosopher Bettina Stangneth’s book Lügen Lesen we will discover the freedom of lies and the limiting effects of the truth. We will cover such questions as: is hiding a part of the truth automatically a lie? What is the difference between a lie, the liar, and lying (the act of telling a lie)? And how is the lie connected to trust, reality distortion, and power? To keep the heat of discussions at a tolerable level, we will try to look at all these questions, free of moral judgement.
Bettina Stangneth (*1966) is an independent German philosopher. She is an ardent Kantian, very fond of Hanna Arendt and has spent many years researching about the Third Reich as well as the mechanism of evil. Her most known book, Eichmann before Jerusalem, has been translated in many languages. Lügen lesen is the second book of Stangneth’s Trilogie zur Kritik der dialogischen Vernunft, and has not been translated (yet) and unfortunately, none of her texts available for free in English. If you find the courage, read the publisher’s text on the book with the help of a machine translation.
For Philosophical Minds Zurich theme events in general: At our theme events, we begin with a brief topic introduction, followed by engaging discussions in small groups. It’s all about conversation, not just listening. Also, please note, we keep the atmosphere relaxed and informal—there’s no pressure to speak in front of anyone or do anything that might cause nervousness. Important: When you register for the event, please commit to it and don't be a NO SHOW. Presumably, when the ancient philosophers decided to go to an event, they kept to it ;) We look forward to seeing you
