PHILOSOPHY CAFE

Philosophy is the study of the fundamental nature of knowledge, reality, and existence.

From the ancient Greek word philosophia, literally meaning the' Love of Wisdom'. Wisdom is the ability to think and act using knowledge, experience, understanding, common sense, and insight.
Therefore the purpose of Philosophy is to answer the questions about 'Life, the Universe and Everything'!

The general approach of philosophy is to systematically question, with a reliance on critical rational argument. This can be purely through logical reasoning (Rationalism), or to include observational evidence via sensory experience (Empericism).

In Metaphysics, not only is the mind and body relationship studied, but also the nature of 'being’, or essence of things. According to Plato the characteristic of essences is that they are universal, and argued they are independent of the mind, but can be known through reason.

In some schools of thought, being or essence, is considered to be the only true reality, whereas mind and body are illusory. In religious philosophy, personification of being is God.

Applying philosophical principals to everyday life can provide us with ethical and moral standards and guide us on the best way to live.

We have about 300 topics, written on cards.
We look at the cards.. we pick one topic, we discuss it passing around a token, so that everybody has an equal chance to speak.
Then, we read the next card, and so on.
