Über uns
We are excited to announce the launch of the OWASP Vienna Chapter!
The original SBA Security Meetup has evolved and, with new chapter leads, has become the OWASP Vienna Chapter.
As the OWASP Vienna Chapter, our mission is to connect people, share knowledge, and advance software and IT security within our community. We aim to create an open and collaborative environment where security professionals, researchers, students, and enthusiasts can learn from each other, exchange ideas, and build meaningful connections.
Whether you're deeply specialized in application security or just beginning to explore the field, our events and activities are designed to provide valuable insights, hands-on learning opportunities, and a strong network of like-minded individuals.
Special Thanks:
We would like to express our sincere gratitude to SBA Research for providing an event location, as well as food and drinks for our community gatherings. Their ongoing support helps us create a welcoming and engaging space for everyone interested in security.
SBA Research is a research and consulting center (COMET competence center) for Information Security based in Vienna, and calls itself “Home of Nerds”. We thus have started hosting Meetups spotlighting all aspects of Security. By doing so we intend to establish and foster a community of people interested in IT & Information Security and related areas.
Our official Chapter Leads:
- Michael Koppmann

Workshop Details:
Whether it’s Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, or Apple Siri—smart speakers have long been part of our daily lives. They respond to voice commands, control our homes, and answer almost any question. But what actually happens to the data? What vulnerabilities exist? And how trustworthy are these systems, really?
We’ll be addressing exactly these questions on July 23, 2026, in an interactive workshop! Using smart speakers like Alexa as an example, we’ll work together to analyze how security risks can be systematically identified - without any technical attacks or special tools. Instead, we’ll use a structured method that’s well established in cybersecurity research and practice: threat modeling. In doing so, we will examine, among other things:
- What data does a smart speaker collect and process?
- Where are potential vulnerabilities?
- What might attackers be interested in?
- What impact can security incidents have on privacy, businesses, and society?
- How can appropriate protective measures be identified?
No in-depth technical background is required. With a range of perspectives - from technical risk analysis to business impact analysis - you’ll be surprised at how quickly critical vulnerabilities can be identified. So the doors are open to anyone who wants to understand how connected systems can be made more secure.
Speaker & Workshop Moderator:
Corinna Schmitt With her appointment as adjunct professor, the University of the Bundeswehr Munich (UniBw M) is placing an important emphasis on the connection between research, teaching, and practical application in the field of cybersecurity and networked communication systems. She has been active in research and teaching on secure communication in heterogeneous multi-domain networks and trustworthy digital infrastructure for many years and heads the Secure Communication Systems (SeCoSys) research area at the Research Institute CODE.41 Teilnehmer
