Über uns
Speculative Futures Berlin is initiated by Ellery Studio www.ellerystudio.com.
This is a group for those interested in speculative design, critical design, discursive design, strategic foresight, futurism, science fiction and visionary approaches that use design and visual culture to imagine potential future. We will examine the ephemeral and the tangible; showcasing creative projects, far out research, and tangible strategies for affecting change. We'll be hosting speakers—practitioners, teachers, students, and other professionals who will talk about their work and methods.

In 2015, Phil Balagtas organized the 1st Speculative Futures meetup in San Francisco as an experiment to see if there was an appetite for Critical & Speculative Design in the design community. Three years later over 60 chapters had formed around the world. They organized an annual conference and a nonprofit called The Design Futures Initiative (DFI). Over the next 7 years, he would lead a global community with a mission to democratize Futures Thinking and train others to use it for practical design and strategy problem solving. But in 2021, he was pushed out of DFI. He left his nonprofit and corporate consulting job to find a new purpose. Today, he is a professor of Futures Thinking at Elisava University and has his own consultancy dedicated to training and educating people on the power of futures and has written a book called Making Futures Work.
Join us for an evening of storytelling, reflection, and imagination. Phil will share key moments from his journey: from founding a global movement to rebuilding after a personal and professional reset. Following his talk, we’ll open up an interactive session where participants can explore futures practices firsthand. Choose between chatting further with Phil, or testing out speculative methods featured in Phil’s book.
