Marimo: modern, reactive Python notebooks
Details
Rye will introduce marimo the new, reactive Python notebook that saves as plain .py files, plays nicely with Git, and can run as scripts or lightweight apps. In this hands-on meetup we’ll get your environment set up and explore a few small problems to see how marimo’s “reactive cells” keep code and outputs in sync. We’ll also use uv, a fast Python package & project manager, to install and manage dependencies together during the session. https://gitlab.com/ryeliegh/appliedworkshop
What we’ll do:
- Install uv and use it to create a clean environment and add marimo.
- Launch marimo, learn the basics (editing, reactive execution, inline UI), and solve a couple of approachable exercises you can continue at home.
Notes:
- This is a short meetup, not the full 40-hour workshop the linked course page shows the broader topics we’ll touch on.
- Bring a laptop. You don’t need marimo preinstalled; we’ll walk through installing uv and marimo live. If you’d like a head start, check the marimo “Getting Started” and uv docs.
Who should join:
- Python users (data, ML, scientific, or general dev) curious about reproducible notebooks and faster package management.
