YOW Conference 2017 - Register for Discount

Details

To attend YOW 2017, you will need to buy a ticket. Registering here will get you a discount code (by the end of Oct) at a significant discount with the gracious support from YOW to local meetup groups. Thanks YOW! :)

YOW is always an awesome chance to to network with Brisbane's best and to meet and listen to a big group of international speakers. I've been going to YOW for the past 5 years now, and they have all been a wonderful way to end the year and energise a mountain of holiday research and tinkering. :)

There are three keynotes this year:

Dave Farley – Reactive Systems
Linda Liukas - Principles of Play & Programming
Lynn Langit & Oscar Luo – Cloud Data Pipelines for Genomics from a Bioinformatician and a Developer

This year looks like there is a core theme of distributed systems architectures. There are even two different talks on using raft in a system. :)

Two repeat YOW Speaker FPers are back: Julien Verlaguet (facebook OCamler with a big PLT interest) and Aaron Bedra ( Security and Clojure Expert ). Not to mention that I believe that it is the first YOW talks for our very own aussie FPers, Tony Morris and Ken Scambler!

There are a number of people & process based talks. The ones that stood out on my scan through:

  • Heidi Helfand – Dynamic Reteaming : The Art & Wisdom of Changing Teams
  • Woody Zuill – Estimates or NoEstimates?
  • Katrina Owen – The Bait & Switch of Open Source
  • Sandy Mamoli – How the Olympics Can Make You a Better Person

The entire list of talks can be found here:
http://brisbane.yowconference.com.au/talks/ Just RSVP here (with +1s if you have other coworkers joining you) and I'll get you the code very shortly.
