Join us for a great opportunity to have a FREE outdoor guided tour of the Walker Sculpture Garden! Please join us for another exciting tour with one of our knowledgeable and talented guides, Billy. You are welcome if you have toured with us before and we welcome all new participants too!

The Minneapolis Sculpture Garden is one of the crown jewels of the city’s park system, uniting two of Minnesota’s most cherished resources—its greenspace and its cultural life. The 11-acre site, home to the iconic Spoonbridge and Cherry, showcases more than 40 works from the Walker Art Center’s renowned collection.

We will learn about the history of the Sculpture Garden beyond the tidbits I am posting here, and learn about the sculptures in the Garden.

Minneapolis Sculpture Garden dates back to the early 20th century. Its land was donated to the Park Board in 1906 by Thomas Lowry, whose home was just up the hill, where the Walker Art Gallery and Walker Art Center would later be built. This acreage was just a small slice of the total land donated for parks over the years by Lowry, a real-estate magnate and head of the Minneapolis Street Railway Co. (later the Twin Cities Rapid Transit System).

Note that in case of rain, the tour will be held inside the Walker Art Center to learn about some of the indoor sculptures there.

VERY IMPORTANT: If you sign up, please put this on your calendar right away, and if a conflict arises, please be sure to update your reservation at least a week before to give another interested person the chance to use the limited number of spots allowed by the venue. 20+ Fun Games are Set Up at every Picnic (Plus it’s an Easy Way to Meet and Make New Friends)

20+ Picnic Games include: Bean Bag Toss, Ladder Toss, Croquet, Volleyball, Badminton, Bocce Ball, Lawn Darts and more… Table Games include: Bolaball, Jenga, Checkers, Farkle, Cards and more. 18 Hole Mini Golf Course (for non serious golfers), Pickleball (if concrete there) & Fun Team Relay Races (Participate or Cheer)

Picnic Basics: Bobby Rented 5 Picnic Shelters for the 6 Summer Picnics so Rain or Shine the Park Picnic is happening. Running Water Bathrooms at all picnics sites. Free Parking at all sites (arrive early for nearest parking).

Rules of the Game (besides having fun and making new friendships):

• Pay a $12 fee when you Arrive and Register to get your Badge.

Fee includes Park Shelter Rentals, Burgers, Brats, Hot Dogs, Buns, Ketchup, Mustard, Pickles, Bottled Water, Chips, Name Badges, Plates, Napkins, Silverware, Serving Pieces & Utensils, Event Games, Ice, Charcoal, Decorations, Sanitizers, etc… (Fyi… this is not a profit center for Bobby, last year lost $2500+ and the year before lost $1500+) Donations are Appreciated!

The Potluck Picnics always end up with Fabulous Salads, Entrées, Desserts, Beverages, and much more . You're welcome and encouraged to bring a potluck item if you choose.

• There are Potluck Menu suggestions posted below. Please sign up in the “Comments” area for a Food, Beverage, or Dessert item to let us know what you will be bringing.

• Bring a folding lawn chair or blanket (if you like), sunglasses, cap and your youthful playfulness. Plenty of Picnic Tables .

• Picnic Events will last 4+ hours.

• Picnic Registration & Potluck Food Drop Off begins at 11:00 - 12:00 Noon. Volunteers are welcome to help set things up or help organize food items as they arrive or Grill.

Please bring pre-packaged Potluck Items, or Store Items as much as possible. I bring extra serving platters & bowls, utensils, sanitation products, and rubber gloves, so nobody needs to touch food when dropping off their potluck item or putting the food item on a tray or in a bowl. Safety, Food Preparation and Serving are my #1 concern for everyone.
