'Blue' ocean film (Sydney Film Festival at The Ritz)

This film is part of the Sydney Film Festival 2017. It's premiering in the Festival and will be released in Australian cinemas from late July.

MEET OTHER GREEN THINKING PEOPLE

'Blue' is the inaugural film for the Green Film Club Sydney.

We're getting together at 3pm for a drink upstairs at The Ritz Cinema Bar. The film starts at 4pm. Be great to also see you at The Ritz Bar after the movie! We'll be there for about an hour after the movie.

The filmmaker Karina Holden has let us know she will be at The Ritz for this showing. And there should be cast from the film there too.

Note that Monday the 12th is a public holiday. Also that the film is showing at The State Theatre the night before, but we think that session may sell out. And besides, it's going to be easier to find each other at The Ritz.

ABOUT THE FILM

As marine biologist and activist Lucas Handley explains, our oceans are in trouble and it's time we stopped thinking of them as both a place of limitless resources and a dumping ground.

His call for action is echoed by passionate advocates for marine preservation, such as shark activist Madison Stewart, FNQ ranger Philip Mango, seabird specialist Dr Jennifer Lavers, sustainability promoter Tim Silverwood, Greenpeace's Mark Dia and long-time campaigner Valerie Taylor.

Filmed over two years in Indonesia, the Philippines, Hawaii and Australia, this cinematic, galvanising documentary comes at a time when we are making critical decisions that will decide the legacy we leave for generations to come.

ABOUT THE FILMMAKER

Karina Holden has worked as the Head of the Science & Natural History Unit at the ABC and has produced for National Geographic and the Discovery Channel. Karina is now Head of Factual at Northern Pictures.
