Stephen Zoio from Zendesk on "A brief primer on typeclass derivation in Scala"
Short overview:
In this talk we delve into some of the magic that happens when your favourite Scala library generates typeclass instances on your behalf.
We start with a recap of typeclasses, and briefly touch on some useful theory and background knowledge.
We then review the approaches taken by the Shapeless and Magnolia libraries to generate type classes by looking at some simple hands-on examples. May look at Scala 3 if time permits.
Audience level: Mainly Intermediate, hopefully something for everyone.
Helpful background knowledge: Scala proficiency: implicit parameters, some exposure to functional programming.
