Seneca on Anger: Reason Over Rage
Details
Many people think Stoics suppress all emotions—but that’s a misconception. While Stoicism is often seen as a “therapy of the passions,” it actually values good emotions like love, joy, and caution as essential to living a eudaimonic (flourishing) life.
In this meetup, we’ll focus on what the Stoics considered the most destructive passion: anger. Seneca took the topic so seriously that he devoted an entire book to it—De Ira (On Anger). We’ll explore his perspective: What is anger? What causes it? What are its consequences? And most importantly—how can we prevent it?
We’ll meet at Panera, in the reserved alcove room.
Hope to see you there!
