Details
Portions of the trail will be covered with snow and ice. Please bring micro spikes or hiking boots/shoes with sturdy grip. [Bring a headlamp!]
We'll do an afternoon Cardio Hike ascent of the Old La Luz Trail starting from the Drinking Fountain Trailhead [207] off of FR 333 and climbing to the base of the La Luz trail rock fall via the Old La Luz Trail. We'll start at 3:00 PM, and at approximately 5:00 PM we'll still starting heading back down and gather anyone maintaining a slower pace on the way up. This is a challenging ascent but well worth the time and effort. Note that the starting location is NOT at the La Luz Trailhead parking lot.
Distance: 6.2 miles
Elevation gain: 2400 feet
⚠ The starting location is the Drinking Fountain Trail located off of FR 333. A map to this location can be found here: https://www.trailforks.com/trails/drinking-fountain/ and can also be seen here: https://www.trailforks.com/poi/120202/ There are two small parking lots on the east side of FR 333 and a third larger parking lot on the west side of FR 333 at this location. We will meet at the east parking lots.
Cardio hikes are designed for all paces. The goal is to have the opportunity to improve fitness and prepare for longer day hikes. You will likely find hikers with a similar pace, but may also find yourself hiking alone, particularly if you have not been hiking recently. Being familiar with the trail in advance is strongly encouraged. Please contact me directly or post in the comments if you have questions.
With your RSVP you made a commitment: You signed up with the intent to go because you value your commitment to yourself and others. You are prepared to hike in changing conditions. You can address your needs around food, water, clothing, and any health needs that are unique to you. You are capable of returning to the starting point and going on about your life unassisted, but would rather participate in our community.
