What's on:

This week will be focussed on teaching a little about some of the tools GovHack participants might find useful for their projects; the idea being they have some foundation in common tools before the weekend, possibly lending more scope to what is possible during the hackathon.

Andrew Phillips from Splunk.com will be introducing their software and how GovHackers might use it to get results.

We will also be giving brief introductions to the following tools:

• git (http://git-scm.com): A version control system for storing the code or documentation for your project

• ssh (http://www.openssh.org): A text-based remote access protocol for accessing another computer (such as a hosted virtual machine) where you might want to host your project

• Miscellaneous other command-line tools

We'll also do a quick refresher from last week.

How it works:

Please arrive no earlier than 5:30PM (to avoid disrupting ThoughtWorks employees).
The meetup officially opens at 6PM, and there will be somebody to let people upstairs until about 6:15.
If you arrive after 6:15, you'll need to call and someone will let you in.

There will be some snacks provided; we try to make sure that we cover vegan and gluten free.
If you have specific needs, or feel like bringing something to share, please bring some food.

About the Meetup:

Some weeks will have more action than others - speakers, experts, a particular focus.
We will update that week's event as it happens.
If you have something in particular you would like to learn (data privacy for instance),
let us know and we'll work something out.
