What we're about

Our Club members would like the opportunity to introduce you to the amazing water sport, dragon boating.

As our racing season has just finished it is time to recruit new people for next season.

ACDC Dragon Fire is nearly 2 years old, has achieved a great deal in that short time, and is looking to find other like-minded people to come with us on the journey of our next stage of development.

Opportunities beyond local competition are annual Australian Championships, State representation, international championships and festivals and representing Australia as an "Aurora" in World championships. Or you may simply choose to be a recreational paddler (until that competitive spirit kicks in).

If you are 18 to 50 please join members of ACDC Dragon Fire for 4 FREE introductory, beginners sessions in the fast-paced team sport.

We pride ourselves on the multiculturalism that exists within our Club, and how family-oriented we are. This has inspired the development of the first Junior crew in South Australia since the inception of dragon boating some 30 years ago, so we welcome youngsters between 10-17 years of age.

These sessions are specifically developed for newcomers. However, if we consider your fitness and early adaptability to the technique used you will be invited to attend our Sports sessions. These are held 3 times a week.

• Mondays & Wednesdays (6.15pm for 6.30 on the water)

Venue: The Sailing Club, 1 Jenkins Street, Birkenhead

• Saturdays (8.15am for 8.30 on the water)

Venue: Aquatic Reserve, Cnr Old Port & Bower Roads, West Lakes (entrance off Bower Road).

If you love the water and like exercise we'll teach you in a friendly, small group environment, and time permitting catch-up for a coffee afterwards.

All levels of fitness are catered for and sessions will last for 60mins approx.

Experienced and highly qualified personnel will conduct the sessions.

Feel free to invite friends, workmates or family members to join you in sharing the experience.

Aquatic Reserve, West Lakes

• What we'll do When you arrive at 9.45am you will be introduced to some of our Club members who will be paddling with you during your session. You will be asked to fill in a 'Participation' form so we have a few details about you. Following this will be a Safety briefing, the fitting of a life jacket if you can't swim 50m, provision of a paddle and then instruction on the paddling technique. The Coach will then set up the boat and tells everyone where to sit. • What to bring A sense of humour is important. You'll be trying something different to anything you've done before. Remember to bring a bottle of water to each session as you will be asked to hydrate regularly, wear a hat & sunscreen if you wish. Please wear clothing that can get wet, including water shoes or thongs. Shower & change-room facilities are at Aquatic Reserve so bring a change of clothes if you wish as we'll go for coffee afterwards if it suits. • Important to know A bottle of water
