About us
This group is for anyone who has always wanted to take art lessons and finally decided to do so. After working in schools for the past 30 years, and with my new Diploma of Art Therapy, I have developed a unique teaching system that is more than just learning skills. I know the health benefits of living a creative life. I help people develop their creative side so they can use art-making to learn, grow, heal, make friends and find enjoyment.
In 2009, my husband of 22 years, lost his battle with Depression. My life was turned upside down in an instant! Art became invaluable to me while I grieved and by 2016 I was ready to launch Studio Yellow. I now share what I've learned personally (and professionally) with others because I really believe Art helps to make life worth living.
While everyone is welcome, I started Studio yellow to reach out to adults who feel they really need to start 'ART' from the very beginning. My classes combine everything I know about art materials and techniques with everything I have learnt about fostering creativity from the 100s of students I have taught during my career. As a fully qualified, registered Art teacher, I make every class relaxed and informative so you will learn how to enjoy the creative process in a completely non-judgemental atmosphere. With lots of personal attention, absolute beginners feel particularly supported.
You will meet people who have always had art in their heart but have had little or no opportunity to learn how to do it. I also run sessions for those with some Art experience who are looking to reignite their confidence or work in a collaborative art space. Our members also meet up socially at Galleries and Exhibition openings and anywhere else that takes our fancy.
My classes are held in Manly West on Brisbane's beautiful bayside on weekdays and Saturdays!! I also offer Corporate workshops such as my '5 Steps to unlock Positive, Proactive and Productive teams'. A full list of classes and workshops are listed on my website (www.studioyellow.com.au).
I love changing lives for the better, through Art as I truly believe all Art is therapy. I urge you to nurture your mental health forever by starting a healthy hobby today!
I look forward to meeting you soon, Natalie

Hand-Carved Block Printing
Manly West Studio, Treetop Place, Manly west, Brisbane, AULearn a new way to practise mindfulness by turning your favourite pictures or drawings into block prints. For me, the focus and concentration required to hand-card a block, before printing, is very relaxing. I also love the process of making multiple copies of the one design.
You’ll learn how to turn any image into a bold design full of contrast and pattern. I will guide you through every step from the initial design to the finished product.
Blocking printing is a versatile process that you could continue to do at home because you don’t need a lot of space or an expensive Printing Press…and you will be able to use the block you make during this session again and again as a bespoke stamp to produce more Art prints, unique greeting cards or create collage elements for your other Art projects.
This workshop is for you if:
- you’re a complete beginner looking for an exciting creative experience.
- you remember doing a linocut at school and want to re-engage with this simple but effective printmaking process.
- block printing is already something you do but you want to learn ways to take what you know to a whole new level.
- you’re looking for a relaxing way to spend a Saturday afternoon, mingling with people who also know the value of taking time out for some creative self-care.
Take your inspiration from Nature (images supplied) or you are welcome to bring images on another topic. You’ll be guided and supported a little or a lot depending on your wishes, and offered honest advice and feedback so that by the end of the session, you’ll have a finished artwork ready to frame and a hand-carved block to keep (and re-use).
You’ll love the process of block printing because we all need to make time to breathe, relax and (like in life) carve away the parts that are not needed and keep the parts you like.
What’s included:
- Your choice of one 11 x 11 cm double-sided square block OR one 15cm round double-sided block to carve during the session (and keep forever).
- All materials and equipment.
- Step-by-step instructions.
- Organisational ideas and advice on resources you need to set up your home studio.
- Tea/coffee and light snacks.
- An apron for use on the day.
- Relaxing Music.
- Lots of photos that I will share with you, upon request.
- Clean up – it’s all taken care of for you.
