During the last Lockdown a few Jazz Aficionados and myself sponsored Private Jazz Gigs. We wanted to support the Jazz Musicians and get a much needed Jazz fix. The Private Gigs exceeded our wildest expectations. Due to the intimate Venue & small audience (10) the Musicians were able to relax & play inspiring sounds. Some of the best music I have ever heard in NZ. They were creative & let it rip. BYO and folks bringing in pizza / soups / cusine / created an informal gathering. We had a communal soup with the Musicians between the 2nd & 3rd set. We are sponsoring another Private Gig w DOG. DOG is a quartet of the Top Jazz musicians in NZ. DOG won the 2015 Tui Award for best Jazz Album in NZ. These guys are so good, so hot, we will need to throw a bucket of water on them to cool them down. A high impact, stunning gig; DOG will be playing like maniacs. Roger Manins - Tenor Sax - Sounds like air peeling over a microphone at some terrifying velocity. Kevin Field - Piano - His hands rip the keys to leave an indelible imprint on the modern mind. Oli Holland - Bass - Plays the nastiest Bass in NZ. The deep notes will move your internal organs a few inches. Ron Samsom - Drums - His drum rolls sound like bodies hitting the floor. This should be one of the best gigs of the 2020 Jazz season.....not to be missed. Only 25 Tickets available. Tickets $ 60.00 We have sold 20 sooo only 5 Tickets left. This gig will SELL OUT. Venue: Mike's Studio on Te Atatu Peninsula. An evening of incrediblly charged sounds the like you have never heard before. If you are interested please contact me thru the Meetup Message Centre or comments section on this Meetup Page. I will give you payment instructions & loction of Mike's Studio.
Led by award-winning Bassist and Bandleader, Umar Zakaria, Fearless Collective unites a group of promising young Wellington Jazz artists around the concept of ‘Fearless Music’, the same ethos that drove the Tui-winning album of the same name: by facing up to personal challenges as part of the creative process, they aim to create music that can inspire audiences to do the same. Musically, the group emphasises intensity, imagination, the development of players’ individual voices and a collective process of shared decision making onstage, encouraging the continual discovery of new approaches to their own original compositions and co-creating unpredictable arrangements and re-arrangements in the moment. This will be a gig of overpowering strength. An evening w a message of courage and unity through the powerful sound of the collective Double Bass. A lot of brass on the stage, be prepared for many surprises.
