Tour de Birthdays 2022 - Murray to the Mountains

Needs a location

  • Distance: 398 km, multi-day bicycle tour.
Six (6) days riding and two (2) rest days.
  • Start & Finish: Lavington [Albury] NSW.
  • Grade: Mixture of rail trails and quietish roads, some hills (the world is not flat). It might/might not be all downhill!
  • Weather: A great time of the year to tour this wonderful area of Victoria. Goldilocks weather: not too hot - not too cold!
  • Accommodation: Mostly staying in caravan park cabins, other options to camp or stay in motels.
A good idea is to buddy up, share cabins and cost.
For other overnight options see some suggestions in the Tour Plan, link below.
Each rider to book their own accommodation.
Pease note: You will need to start booking now as it's a popular time of the year.
  • Getting There: By car, it's 558 km from Sydney.
Not keen on driving, then why not box your bike and travel by train.
  • Car Storage: Albury Gardens Tourist Park in Lavington offers car storage for the week for a small fee, check when book.

Some of us are having big birthdays this year so if your birthday ends with a zero then why not celebrate by joining myself, Rob, and Mick on this epic tour.

The Tour takes us down the Murray River, along Lake Hume to Tallangatta. We'll then head up into the Mountains through some interesting towns such as Yackandandah, Beechworth, Stanley, Myrtleford and onto Bright.
We also take in the newly opened rail trail from Yackandandah to Beechworth.

A rest day in Bright will give us the opportunity to explore, maybe spot a platypus in the Ovens River, or take a spin out to one of the many wineries for a tasting and some lunch.

Back on the rail trail to Wangaratta and a must stop at the Milawa Cheese Factory.
I've made a dinner booking at a great Italian restaurant for our overnight stay in Wangaratta.

We'll leave Wangaratta to ride some quiet roads and rail trail to Corowa via Rutherglen for another well earned rest day.
A good opportunity to explore the town of Corowa or just relax and have a lazy day doing nothing.

Our last day will see us back on quiet roads on our way back to Lavington [Albury], on the way we'll take in the small historic village of Chiltern.

The theme of this tour is to relax, enjoy the easy riding, soak up the scenery, partake in the local food fare but above all have the craic (fun)!

The link below will bring you to the detailed Tour Plan, which should answer any questions you may have: https://bit.ly/3HfGWrV

Full map of tour and daily routes here.

If you RSVP for this ride we ask that you are pretty well committed and that bailing out later on may prevent someone else from attending due to the limited numbers.

If you have any questions, comments or suggestions please contact, Mike MacDonald. Tel:[masked]. Email: [masked]

Looking forward to the adventure.
