M5 Linear Park, Alfred's Point Bridge, Como, Oatley
We ride to Oatley via the M5 Linear Park, Salt Pan Creek Wetlands, Alfred's Point Bridge, Woronora Bridge, Como, and the old railway bridge between Como and Oatley. This is somewhat similar to this http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/Riverwood-Como-Via-Menai-Loop Some basics: this is ride for experienced riders. We will go at a medium pace, almost all is on bike tracks or quiet streets. There are many hills. The route length is about 65km. You will need a bike in good condition, helmet, sunscreen and water. You will be able to bail out at certain points: Riverwood, Jenalli, Como and Oatley train stations (check trackwork!) How this works. The start point is NOT Bar Italia, it is Jack Shanahan Park, Hercules St Dulwich Hill, right next to the Light Rail, and just down from Dulwich Hill Station (check trackwork). Jack Shanahan is also on the gentle slop path of the Greenway, and also an easy ride from Wolli Creek. There's even a carpark! We head out along Cup and Saucer Creek, the normal route along the M5 linear park. After about an hour we should reach Riverwood for a toilet stop. We then go on the board walk along Salt Pan Creek. We continue along the creek, through some hills and back streets till we reach Alfred's Point road leading down to the bridge across the Georges River. The path is completely separate from the road. (See photos) Up the very long hill, we go along the path along New Illawong Rd, then Menai Rd (both all off road) then across the Woronora Bridge which has a special shared path hanging under it (again see photos). From there we turn down to Jenalli, Como, then I think lunch at Oatley (unless we are running late in which case it might be Como). From Oatley, my preference is to come back something like Bob's route http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/copy-of-lbug-leichhardt-to-como-6 with variations, but if people want to go over Taren Point or through Ramsgate we can take a vote. I think we will probably be glad to get back. Check closer to the date for any weather updates. Above 35C or very heavy rain, we won't be able to ride it. Any questions use the comments below. Should be fun.
