The "official" inauguration of the new North Country National Scenic Trail section through Clark Hill State Forest and Pixley Falls State Park is still in the future. But it's time for a "first look" group hike of nearly the full length of the new trail (about 6.2 miles). Folks have been petitioning for a group hike longer than what the Chapter usually hosts. This is it.
Our hike leader is Laurie Ondrejka; Mike Daly is our hike coordinator

Pre-registration: Please notify Mike if you plan to attend; Mike can then notify you of any change in plan.
This will be a one-way hike: we'll meet at Pixley Falls, car-pool south to the Latteiman Road trailhead, and hike north back to Pixley.
Pixley Falls is on Rt. 46, about 19 miles northeast of Rome, NY.
This is lovely terrain. According to the DEC, Clark Hill State Forest was purchased from private landowners incrementally between 1933 and 1950. The majority of it was pasture and cropland not so long ago. Planting from the 1940's and 1950's include pine, spruce and cedar, combining with natural growth of cherry, maple, hemlock and many other tree species. Tranquil rolling woodland is interspersed with hilly sections. The trail crosses Stringer Brook, Bunt Brook and numerous smaller streams, before running alongside the picturesque Lansing Kill (in Pixley Falls State Park).
Dress for conditions: long sleeves and long pants provide some protection against ticks. Trekking sticks are helpful, if you have them (often you can find a sturdy pole or two from nature's blow-down). Have insect repellent on hand as well as water, a snack and a lunch.
