What we’re about
Do you love walking, dogs and exploring new places? Canberra Dog Walks leads social walks for dogs and their humans showcasing the best of Canberra. We are a friendly and welcoming group that's been running since 2016. Generally our walks:
- last between 1 and 2 hours (3-6 km)
- provide one or more optional off leash opportunities
- start and end at a dog friendly café
- follow a loop with minimal retracing of steps
- feature interesting stuff for humans too, such as beautiful views, quirky sculptures or historic buildings.
We offer more than 30 different dog friendly walking routes all over Canberra, and even a few in Queanbeyan and Bungendore, so it's a great way to explore new neighbourhoods.
All walkers are welcome, with or without dogs. We walk at a relaxed pace for maximum enjoyment. Many of our walks include shorter options for those not wanting to walk the whole route.
Please go to our FAQ page for more detailed information on our walks or message the organiser directly.
Membership of this group is $7.50 per year, due within 30 days of joining, but your first walk is free. Payment of the membership fee can be made directly through Meetup (however the charge will be in US dollars), or by attending a walk within 30 days of joining and paying the walk guide directly (when the charge will be in Australia dollars).
We also ask $7.50 from each adult participating in a walk (except for their first walk as per above). Payment is made directly to the guide, who uses a card reader, when you turn up for the walk. No cash is accepted.
These payments help cover our Meetup subscription, insurance, travel, IT and other costs. The group is run on a not-for-profit basis with any excess funds donated to RSPCA Canberra and the ACT Pet Crisis Fund.
To find out more detail about our fees, please go to our FAQ page or message the organiser directly.

Important
- All walkers participate entirely at their own risk and are wholly responsible for their own and their dog's behaviour. By rsvping to a scheduled walk, you understand and agree to this condition.
- We ask that all participants follow the walk guide's directions, especially in relation to their dogs. For example, individual participants may be asked to walk their dog/s on-leash for part or all of the walk if, in the guide's judgement, it is necessary for the consideration of others in the group, or other members of the public. The guide is using their best judgement, after leading hundreds of walks with many different dogs, to ensure as far as possible that everyone has a pleasant experience.

Sunday stroll in Nicholls - pretty streets, off leash track, great views
The Chapel at Gold Creek , 17 O'Hanlon Place, Nicholls, AUThis walk comprises a shorter, 4 km version of Jenny's usual Nicholls walk - skipping the worst hill, but still allowing an off leash opportunity for our furry friends.
We start by walking through Gold Creek before strolling through some really pretty and shady streets at the edge of the golf course. Once we reach the off leash stretch across the base of Harcourt Hill, we'll enjoy spectacular views back towards Black Mountain. But we need to warn you that kangaroo-obsessed dogs may need to stay on leash depending on the 'roo situation.
Note we'll be walking on paved paths and on some dirt tracks.
There is plenty of free parking at our meeting point at Gold Creek opposite the Chapel.
Finally, there are several excellent cafes to choose from near our start/finish point for those wanting an after-walk coffee or brunch.

The walk starts and ends behind the petrol station at the Lanyon Market Place (the local Conder shopping centre), which has plenty of free parking and a dog-friendly venue for our after-walk coffee addicts.
