What we’re about
Looking for new dog friendly walks around Canberra but don't know where to start? Canberra Dog Walks offers guided walks for dogs and their humans showcasing the best of Canberra. Generally our walks:
- last between 1 and 2 hours (3-6 km)
- provide one or more optional off leash opportunities
- start and end at a dog friendly café
- follow a loop with minimal retracing of steps
- feature interesting stuff for humans too, such as beautiful views, quirky sculptures or historic buildings.
All walkers welcome, with or without dogs. We walk at a relaxed pace for maximum enjoyment.
Please go to our FAQ page for more detailed information on our walks or message the organiser directly. Our COVID-19 safety protocols are also available on the FAQ page.
Membership of this group is free but to help cover our Meetup subscription, insurance, travel, IT and other costs we ask $7.50 from each adult participating in a walk, to be paid by card/phone to the guide at the beginning of the walk. Group members can see all income and expenses itemised on the Money page. The group is run on a not-for-profit basis with any excess funds raised donated to the RSPCA and the ACT Pet Crisis Fund.
Find out more about Canberra Dog Walks and dog-friendly Canberra on our website or Facebook page. You can see photos and view videos of our guided walks on instagram and youtube. All information about dog friendly Canberra is provided free, inspired by a love of Canberra, walking and dogs.
Important
- All walkers participate entirely at their own risk and are wholly responsible for their own and their dog's behaviour. By rsvping to a scheduled walk, you understand and agree to this condition.
- We ask that all participants follow the walk guide's directions, especially in relation to their dogs. For example, individual participants may be asked to walk their dog/s on-leash for part or all of the walk if, in the guide's judgement, it is necessary for the consideration of others in the group, or other members of the public. The guide is using their best judgement, after leading hundreds of walks with many different dogs, to ensure as far as possible that everyone has a pleasant experience.

See all- Easter Saturday Kambah walk - Gruner views, off leash heavenMannheim Cafe, Kambah, ACAUD 7.50
Take a real-life journey through an Elioth Gruner painting on this beautiful walk making the most of Kambah's extensive off leash parks.
As well as huge off leash ovals, we extend our walk through a long park culminating in a pretty view of the Tuggeranong Valley.
The 5 km loop features typical Gruner vistas of hills and mountains at every turn, just like his 1920-30s local landscape paintings. The route is mostly flat, with only one uphill/downhill stretch, and with a group will take 90 minutes to 2 hours to complete. And we won't cross a single road - amazing!
The walk starts and ends at the Mannheim Café, on Mannheim Street near the corner of Summerland Circuit. There's a small car park adjacent to the café and more free parking on street.
This is one of our 'pram-friendly' walks as there's the option to walk only on well-paved paths.
To see more detail about the walking route, go to https://www.canberradogwalks.com.au/kambah-pram-friendly-walk/ But note we are starting this walk at a different location.
Important info:

- All off-leash activities are at the discretion of the walk guide. If for any reason they feel any dog should be back on lead, please respect their decision, as they are trying to ensure everyone has a pleasant experience.
- We ask $7.50 per adult to be paid by card to the guide at the beginning of the walk - children (under 18) walk free of charge. The charge helps cover our meetup subscription, insurance, internet, petrol, and other costs. We will gladly refund this if you are not happy for any reason.

- Wednesday Lyneham/O'Connor walk - inner north vibe, huge off leash ovalsBrigalow Street & Hall Street, Lyneham, ACAUD 7.50
Explore old Lyneham and O'Connor streets, plus extensive off leash parks, on this varied and colourful northside walk.
We'll start and end our walk at the Lyneham shops, on the corner of Brigalow and Hall Streets adjacent to the Lyneham Primary School. There is parking available on Hall Street at the back of the shops, where there's also a public toilet and good IGA.
From the shops we head straight into off leash territory on the Lyneham oval. We then continue towards O'Connor via a series of inter-connected off leash parks - and tempting creek channels - until we reach another enormous off leash space, the O'Connor Neighbourhood Oval.
On our return loop, we'll wander through the interesting back streets of O'Connor and Lyneham.
The walk is mainly flat, approximately 5 km, and with a group may take up to 2 hours to complete, especially if we dawdle on the off leash ovals.
See our Lyneham-O'Connor walk directions and map for more info.
