This is a group for people who would like to meet up once a month (most likely on a weekend when people are available) to pick up rubbish in different parks, reserves, beaches, coastal regions or anywhere that needs it.
Think of it like a Clean Up Australia Day but more regular.
Our idea is to have members of the group put out ideas for places in and around Melbourne that they known or have seen to have rubbish (especially in places that the rubbish may spread or affect wildlife). Then we select an area and turn up with bags and gloves.
All organising will be done by us and if any kind of council registrations need to be filed we can take care of it. All the other members need to do is suggest places, agree on a place and then turn up with your own gloves and bags (and any other equipment you want to bring).
We hope to make this a nice community of like-minded people who don't mind getting outdoors, getting into nature, getting a bit dirty and helping promote keeping our city and natural places clean and healthy. All this while hopefully having a good time and making new friends. After each session we can go for dinner and drinks if we want to as well.
Also if the locations are not easily accessible by public transport we can organise carpooling between members who live near each other.
I imagine it will be a small group (10-30??) but even if there is a few of us we can start cleaning up places that need it, and if the group grows we can begin to tackle larger areas.
Hope to hear from you and meet up.
Andrew and Alice
