Jordan, Hiking in the Wadi Rum and Petra

London Gatwick Airport

GBP 785.00

Jordan, Hiking in the Wadi Rum and Petra £150 deposit payable on RSVP Jordan is a land of unexpected beauty and variety. It is an oasis of relative peace amongst the troubled Middle East. We will experience the remarkable hospitality of its people especially the Bedouin and you are promised an unforgettable experience. From Aqaba, on the Gulf of Aqaba, we will travel to the amazing Wadi Rum, a maze of monolithic rockscapes rising up from the desert floor to heights of 1750 metres. This is a stupendous, timeless place, virtually untouched by humanity. The weather and the winds have carved the imposing, towering skyscrapers, so elegantly described by T.E. Lawrence as “vast, echoing and God-like”. We will be hiking with the help of a Bedouin guide using camels to transport our equipment. After our desert adventure, we travel north to the town of Wadi Musa to visit Petra. Hidden in the heart of the Shara Mountains it is truly magnificent and has been declared one of the New Seven Wonders of the World and a Unesco World Heritage site. We will hike around this vast area visiting the Treasury and the Monastery and many other sites, off the beaten track. Everyone needs to visit Petra once in their lifetime. It doesn’t disappoint. This is a trip for the experienced hiker, although the distances walked are not great, maybe up to 16km (or 10 miles) each day. The terrain is a mixture of sand and rock where no paths exist. We will be walking on exposed terrain where the use of hands may be necessary. We will also be undertaking some Grade 1 scrambling in exposed situations.
