Training Hike
It is crunch time for Mt. Washington. If you have not been training for New Hampshire you may want to let it go this year.
This is a challenging and long hike along the Bear Mountain region. It will be approximately 11-miles. Mount Race and Bear Mountain are difficult climbs, the latter with a rock scramble on the north side.

We will meet at the Undermountain Trail Head. I know the time is super early, but it is a very small parking area. We are going to run a car spot up the road to the Race brook Falls hiking trail on Rt. 41. That is our starting place.

Please be prepared for a long day with clothes, food, bug spray, electrolytes, lots of water, sunscreen.

This will be a long day of travel and hiking. Everyone starts on a waitlist. I will keep this group small.

Please check your route, download the GPS at home, know your travel time. Arrive early enough to start at the posted start time.

New Hampshire Training hike. It's crunch time for Mt. Washington. If you have not been training consider next year for a big hike.

Yep, I know this July 4th Weekend. Sorry for those with holiday plans.

We are hiking up the 3,491-ft. Mt. Greylock, the tallest peak in Massachusetts. The path we'll hike will be a looping hike of about 8 miles in length and with a roughly 2,248 ft. altitude gain. We will be starting in Greylock Glen on the east side of the mountain, following the Bellows Pipe Trail and connect to the Appalachian Trail (AT) to the peak. We will lunch and take in the views at the peak. From the peak, we head south on the AT, then take Gould trail back to Greylock Glen. Greylock Glen will have bathroom facilities and there are bathroom facilities at the peak too.
Hopefully the visitors center on the summit will be open. Bring money for ice cream.

Hiking boots required. Hiking poles are advised. Please bring a pack and bring plenty of water with electrolytes and food containing protein and carbohydrates, sunscreen, bug spray. You must eat. The summit may be windy and cooler so bring something warm to wear for the lunch break.

We will hike at a moderate pace with breaks when folks need them. The trail will be steep. No children. If you want to bring your dog you must contact me directly.
Everyone will start on the waitlist. I will move over folks I have hiked with and have made the New Hampshire a summer goal.

Directions: I want to start at the parking area further on Gould Road. If you drive up the hill, there is a parking area on the right. Go past that and around the corner. There is a pull off and a bathroom on the right. There will be another parking area at a gate on the right. That's the start.

TRAINING HIKE. PREFERENCE GIVEN TO THOSE ON THE NEW HAMPSHIRE HIKE. ALL START ON A WAITLIST.
THIS IS NOT A BEGINNER HIKE. YOU ARE TRAVELING OUT OF STATE. YOU NEED TO BE PHYSICALLY FIT AND ABLE TO KEEP UP WITH THE GROUP.

Mt. Monadnock at 3165' is the second most climbed mountain after Mt. Fuji in Japan. This mountain in southern New Hampshire has a bare rock summit. It will give a good sense of terrain moving further north in the state. This hike becomes rather strenuous and difficult the higher we go. It is mostly rock scramble This is not a beginner's hike!

For this trip we are going to hike the south side. We will hike Poets Seat and Cliff Walk among other and make a loop back to cars via White Circle or White Cross depending on how we are feeling. There will be bathrooms in the parking lot.

Time will be an estimated 5 and 1/2 hours. Be prepared for changes of temperature and strong winds on the summit (you will be wet from perspiration so hypothermia is a concern).

NO COTTON is acceptable for this hike and sturdy hiking boots required. Hiking poles are advised. Please dress in layers and have a wind jacket. Bring plenty of water and some foods containing protein and carbohydrates. The wind at the summit can be very strong so the temperatures are lower on the summit, up to 15 degrees cooler than at the base. We will hike at a moderate pace with small breaks when folks need them. Once we are on the mountain, no facilities are available.

Pets are not permitted in the park or on the mountain. Please note that this law includes all trails and areas on Mount Monadnock.

The meeting spot is going to be Monadnock Headquarters. You must purchase a parking pass for this area. Once you are moved of the waitlist I will send you the link to purchase parking. Parking cannot be canceled of refunded. Purchase will not be available until 2 weeks prior.

There is great food in Keene.
A wet rainy day will cancel this hike.

Everyone must have a parking reservation purchased online before the event. It is a busy area on a great weather day. Do not expect to buy a pass the morning. Planning required.
