What we're about
Hobart Book Club (est. 5 Sep 2015)
We are 'Ladies of the Book'... an enthusiast and supportive group of ladies (sorry gentlemen) that meet every three weeks on Wednesdays 1:30 - 3:00 pm. We share interests in historical fiction, classics, crime fiction, culturally-rich memoirs and anything else that takes our fancy. We also have a fondness for cheesecake. Conversation sometimes drifts on to films and other subjects. We decide on the books we're going to read 6 months in advance. At our gatherings we chat about what we liked or didn't like about the book - plot, historical research, characters. You don't have to have a dissertation prepared, you don't even have to like the book or even finish the book... there's no test. Just come along and share a cuppa and a chat with like-minded people.
Final decisions on what we read are usually based on availability of books from the library. Because Meetup.com likes taking money from us to use their web site, we ask for a $2 donation on each visit. Any surplus monies are put towards the printing costs and/or our Christmas luncheon. To keep our costs down, membership is capped which means if you haven't attended a meeting for three months, your membership may be removed. This then gives other people who might be waiting to join, a chance to participate. So come along and share with us... preferably more than once; we love it when new people join and love it even more when they return!
