What we're about

10,000 steps a day. It is hard to achieve that every day - but the process of trying to get to that goal has been fun. This group was created for like-minded people who would like to join us for walks around Townsville. We include Castle Hill, Strand walks, some MTB trails in Pallarenda and Douglas and long day and multi day hikes.

We are open to suggestions for new walks to mix it up and make it interesting.

Times - we pick a variety and again - open to suggestions. I might even thrown in a late evening trail walk with head torches and picnic supper so that we can head out maybe after the kids are in bed. Some walks will be early in the morning or late afternoon. We'll mix it up and hopefully you can come on a few.

RULES - PLEASE READ

**RSVP's**

We are a really easy going bunch. The only request we have is that you respect the maximum number of RSVPs that is set for a particular walk. If you cannot RSVP, it is because the walk has reached the maximum capacity that is feasible on that particular track. Please respect that.

** "NO SHOWS"**

If you RSVP as coming to an event, please adjust your RSVP to not coming with a decent lead in to the event.

Ideally this is about a day to 6 hours prior to the walk start time for a short walk [ 3-4 hours].

For the long bush walks - at least 48 hours or longer if you can, for a long hike.

It is just plain courtesy, so that people on the wait list can take your spot.

If you simply make it a habit of RSVPing as "Coming" and do not show up, then after 4 such "NO SHOW's " we put you on the "wait - list" to give others a first preference to join us [Unless you can confirm for sure that you will most definitely be coming along]

**KNOW THYSELF :) **

While we will not leave any walker behind. It would be gracious if you are honest with yourself about your ability to do a hike safely, so that you are not a risk to others in the group and that you do not hold them up beyond what is reasonable.

If in doubt - try out some of the easier walks we have first to build up your experience and fitness.

**WALKING PACE and MINI GROUPS**

Walking in a large group of 15 or so individuals brings with it a natural variation in walking speeds.

You will find yourself close to or near a group of similarly paced individuals. Please be aware of each 1 or 5 of you (or the number you vaguely are) and try to look out for each other as much as you can. Make sure the last of you is ok. This is especially important if you are at the back of the walking pack.
This way, walkers can stick together relative to their walking speeds. It will make for a better and more fluid walking experience.

**PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY**

As always, please bear in mind our PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY philosophy. We are not a formal organisation or association and take no responsibility for any mishaps that may occur as a result of our activities. It is up to each individual to make sure they are capable of attempting this walk.

A first aid kit is essential as you are responsible for your own safety .

** WATER**

You MUST carry adequate water on walks.

The group leader or event host's decision on allowing you on a walk is final. If they believe that you are unfit or unable to do a walk or be part of the group, please respect that decision.
