What we’re about
Do you love to work with Excel? Or maybe you are just looking to learn what you need to do better at work or apply for a new job. In either case, this group is for you.
Because it is impossible for any of us to know everything about Excel, this group is meant to be a space for sharing what we know with each other. In each session, we bring a guest to tell us about their best tips, tricks, techniques, and thoughts about an Excel-related topic. We are very proud of the amazing content that we have delivered to our Group Members so far.
Registration as a member has no cost, and all the sessions are FREE.
We are running two different session series to address everyone's needs.
EXCEL ESSENTIALS: focusing on essential functions and features, fundamental core concepts for data analysis, and practical tips for everyday use.
This series will offer shorter sessions delivered by Excel Trainers, Power Users, and Experts to help you build your foundational Excel skills and become a stronger and more confident Excel user.
Presentation time: about 30 minutes
Total session duration: about 60 minutes
EXCEL EXPANDED: because Excel keeps evolving and expanding in so many directions and can integrate with so many different technologies, we will continue to invite the best experts in the world to share their knowledge and best tips with us, leading us to expand our Excel skills and understanding of what Excel can do.
These sessions will follow our usual format.
Presentation time: 45-60 minutes
Total session duration: about 90 minutes
Anyone can attend any of the sessions by clicking a link provided to those who register (RSVP Yes) for the session.
Sessions are currently happening online through Microsoft Teams. There is no need to install Microsoft Teams. You can use your browser on your computer or mobile device to join the session.
We would love to hear what you have been up to with Excel. What kind of problems do you solve with it? What kind of solutions do you build with it? What are your favourite techniques, features and tools? What is your advice about best practices for working with Excel?
If you want to learn more about using Excel to your maximum potential, this group is for you. Let's all get together to connect and learn from each other.

Designing for Data Quality | Tanya McIlravy
OnlineSESSION DETAILS
When users (including you!) struggle to understand how to use their Excel-based tools, data quality can become compromised by design. The solution: design it for data quality.
In this session, we will discuss how to use color, organize the space on the spreadsheet, and more to create an interface that gives users confidence, enhances data quality, and even helps the developer (you!). This is important whether or not you share your tools with others.
We will go over Office themes, cell styles and table formatting. Layout, validations, branding, and color theory will also be included. All with accessibility in mind, of course!
It’s a lot to cover in 30 minutes, so expect mostly high-level concepts and some examples to get you started in designing interfaces with “you-sers” in mind.
ABOUT THE SPEAKER
Tanya has over 30 years of experience as a frustrated user of technology. For 15 years, she has been part of the solution, advocating for users and championing accessibility, design, and data quality. She has designed tools to automate tedious error-prone manual processes that improve the quality of life for the user and quality of data for the organization.
Her favorite KPI? Automating a fiscal-year-end accrual process, reducing hours spent by 80%, which allowed the primary user to have dinner with his wife on their anniversary for the first time in decades because he wasn’t working overtime on the closing transactions on September 30th. Automation is about creating capacity for the things that matter, at work and at home. Capacity = joy and bringing joy is her life’s work.

Excel Puzzles That Make You Think Differently | Agnieszka Nyka
OnlineSESSION DETAILS
A light, fast-paced, visually striking session sharing a journey of re-creating traditional puzzles in Excel. It’s a triumph of creativity and logic over shiny advanced formulas - from mazes to Rubik’s cubes, each build pushes Excel beyond its expected limits. A fun, thought-provoking presentation that invites viewers to think differently about formulas, logic, and what Excel can really do. Along the way, it shows how puzzles can be a playground for developing serious problem-solving skills - the kind that quietly transform how we tackle real work challenges.
ABOUT THE SPEAKER
Excel-obsessed accountant and logic enthusiast, spending her days building automation workflows for finance teams - and her nights bending Excel into puzzles it was never meant to solve. With over 20 years in accounting, a background in mathematics, and a love for creative problem-solving, she believes Excel is more than just a tool - it’s a playground for the mind.
Outside of her day job as a management accountant, she runs Purpose Logic, helping fellow accountants automate their work and month-end madness with Excel.
