What we're about

Welcome to Melbourne Code Mentoring!

This is a group for all levels of coders who work on the web. Whether you've never written a line of code in your life, or you're a seasoned code-monkey, this group is for you! We meet up regularly on weekends and provide an easy environment to learn how to code, improve your skills, or if you feel you're good enough, help out with mentoring.

Free code mentoring - Hacktoberfest Open Hack Day Special

General Assembly Melbourne

Code mentoring has been established to help people get started with coding, extend their coding ability, and to help others on their coding journey. Throughout October we will be supporting Open Source Software (OSS) by encouraging everyone to join Hacktoberfest. Bring your laptop, a coffee (or any other non-alcoholic drink), and join us to code in a relaxed and open setting with other developers. If you're new to coding we'll have mentors on hand to help guide you. ## What's Hacktoberfest? Hacktoberfest — brought to you by DigitalOcean in partnership with DEV — is a month-long celebration of open source software. Maintainers are invited to guide would-be contributors towards issues that will help move the project forward, and contributors get the opportunity to give back to both projects they like and others they've just discovered. No contribution is too small — bug fixes and documentation updates are valid ways of participating. Can't make it to this event? Hacktoberfest is virtual and open to participants from around the globe. Sign up to participate today at https://hacktoberfest.digitalocean.com. ## Rules and prizes First, sign up on the Hacktoberfest site at https://hacktoberfest.digitalocean.com. To qualify for the official limited edition Hacktoberfest shirt, you must register and make four pull requests between October 1-31. Pull requests can be to any public repo on GitHub, not just the ones with issues labeled Hacktoberfest. If a maintainer reports your pull request as spam or behavior not in line with the project’s code of conduct, you will be ineligible to participate. Connect with other Hacktoberfest participants by using #hacktoberfest on your social media platform of choice. New to DigitalOcean? Receive USD $50 in infrastructure credit at https://do.co/hacktoberfest50. ## Events code of conduct Hacktoberfest events are welcoming, open, and inclusive. Please read the Events Code of Conduct (https://docs.google.com/document/d/1gFKOhyUqMZzrZcbq8A_TpO5x9J9HK6agv70awCH8pyI) before attending. Happy Hacking! Please note: By attending this Meetup you are agreeing to receive updates about news, programs, and special events from our venue partner General Assembly. Free code mentoring - For all levels

General Assembly Melbourne

You've heard of coding, but it looks kind of complex, and you don't know where to begin. Or perhaps you've been game enough to try, you've downloaded an editor, wrote a few lines, but you're a bit confused. Maybe you're already well on your way, and just want to spend time in a happy community of developers (and want to share your passionate distaste of Internet explorer). Whatever you're level, this is the place for you... We run this meetup almost every week at General Assembly in Melbourne. Bring your laptop, a coffee, and come code in a relaxed and open setting with other developers. For those just starting out, there are mentors who will guide you from the very beginning, and train you each week to become a better web developer. For the more advanced, this is a great opportunity for you to learn more about new and upcoming technologies, contribute by helping and mentoring, or have your question about that weird bug answered. We focus mainly on web development, which includes (but not limited to!) HTML, CSS, Javascript, React and Node.js. Don't worry if you don't know what any of these are, you'll soon pick it up. So come down this Saturday with your laptop (don't forget your charger!) and join us in building and learning on the web! - Tristan Please note: By attending this Meetup you are agreeing to receive updates about news, programs, and special events from our venue partner General Assembly.
