James Espie - You might not need to automate that
Details
Automated tests aren’t always the silver bullet they promise to be.
It can be tempting to add automation for every test case, or mitigate every bug with an automated check.
But, sometimes that can be a costly mistake.
Just as important as learning how to implement automation, is learning when - and when not to - implement it.
In this talk, we’ll look at some different cases where adding automated checks might be a bad idea and why.
Presenter - James Espie
James is a software tester, currently helping to build world class Digital Humans at UneeQ. He’s a big believer in making life better for everyone - by building helpful, easy-to-use software; by helping other testers get better at their craft; and by taking his friends to the pub. When he’s not doing the above, you can find him drawing pictures, running around in the forest, or playing video games with his wife and son.
You can find him as @jamesespie on Twitter, or check out his 'sporadically updated' testing blog at https://jpie.nz
Location: Trade Me's new Fanshawe Street Offices

The $5 cover charge helps us plan for meetups with confidence about attendance and the money is directed straight back into the costs of our activities, so we can do more awesome stuff in the Auckland testing community. (Note: It's charged as £GBP2.50 because Meetup doesn't support $NZD)
If the cover charge is a barrier to attending for you, please send a direct message to one of the organisers - we don't want it to stop anyone joining in.
