Pablo Suau: Finding out what the hottest topics are in Computer Vision based on academic papers clustering

Summary:

The Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition (CVPR) conference, following an open science access philosophy, decided to publish all the conference papers for their latest edition on their website. This was a good opportunity for me, who had an academic interest in Computer Vision in the past, to take a look at what are the current hot topics in this field. However, doing this by manually going through 1000 papers one by one is unfeasible. In this talk I will share what were my conclusions when I decided to use NLP, and more specifically bag of words, to automate the task. Funnily enough I used to do research on visual bag of words many years ago, but... is that still a hot topic in Computer Vision?
