Based in Newport Beach, our all-volunteer outrigger canoe club competes against other clubs throughout Southern California in 6-man outrigger canoes.
The name "IMUA" originates from the Hawaiian language and signifies moving forward and progressing towards a goal. It also represents loyalty to all things Hawaiian and a deep commitment to supporting ideas, causes, and individuals. At canoe races, "IMUA" is often used as the Hawaiian equivalent of "charge," reflecting our club's determination and drive.
It's no coincidence that IMUA is renowned as one of the historically best and most successful canoe clubs in California and the world. Our roster boasts Olympians, professional athletes from various sports, and accomplished individuals who excel in their respective fields.
