What we’re about
Resume workshops are free and all are welcome. The purpose is to inspire and energize participants by introducing insights and expertise that expand possibilities to showcase strengths, talents, and capabilities within the resume format. Attendees will leave eager to apply new ideas and with greater confidence in taking next steps toward preparing a resume that engages reviewers and leads to more interviews. The leader is an expert in preparing resumes, cover letters, and related presentations. The format is informal to allow sharing tips and reactions among people in the group. Attendees' resumes are critiqued at the workshops as time allows. Reviewing resumes as a group demonstrates ideas ranging from novel to traditional that may be adopted to strengthen participants' career change searching.

What do peers and others think of you? What stands out? Are you managing your reputation? This is also known as your branding. You may already have begun managing your branding. For example, on LinkedIn you may have chosen a career-relevant background image that introduces your profile page and establishes your area of expertise and job search focus. And you may have custom-written the headline beneath your headshot. We will examine choices in job searching that send targeted, consistent messages that leave positive impressions. You will gain advantage by taking charge of ways you are seen among peers. Why not pave the way for people to open doors of opportunity! We will adapt our discussion to the interests of workshop participants and invite questions as well as sharing of tips.
Let's inspire and strengthen each other with our insights. The themes that drive resume effectiveness include showing your strengths, emphasizing problems you can solve, and highlighting your potential to add value. You will learn to include challenges you have met and accomplishments that have achieved goals. Attendees typically raise questions about handling work gaps and transitioning to a new industry, new level, new job function, new degree/certification, and more.

The mindset of most in your audience is “What can you do for me?” Your readers have a job to do! They will be swayed by your relevance to meeting their need, as well as by your skills and qualifications, your potential to add value, and clues indicating you will fulfill the expectations of the position and the team. Our discussion will include the importance of building relevance into your resume and extrapolating the employer’s needs from the job posting, then echoing similar achievements in your bullet points. Engaging your reader thrives on including ways you have met challenges and submersed to deeper levels than just producing results. Among novel choices in presenting your talent, creativity, and resourcefulness: How about IRL street language? Story techniques, such as character portrayal, suspense, plot twists, and (surprise!) interjecting emotions? In addition to our theme, we will encourage attendees to ask questions, share dilemmas of job searching, and offer tips to help others.Let's inspire and strengthen each other with our insights.
