Indie Arcade Cabinets: A New Market for Game Dev

Wargaming Syndey

Reuben Moorhouse (Twitter: @xorglord) have worked in game development for the past 6-7 years. Last year, he was named one of MCV Pacific’s 30 under 30 in Aus/NZ game development. Reuben is the founder and manager of a game development studio & consultancy named No Moss Studios based in Surry Hills. No Moss Studios has been around for about two years, and alternate their time between developing games for clients, and developing games to sell to consumers. Their core strength is the ability to develop games for a variety of different platforms, and the latest of those is the arcade cabinet that they have been developing. The talk is about developing indie games for arcade cabinets. It will include some background on the market, some history of what we did and how we ended up here, and then some specific design and technical challenges that we faced because of the specific design space that Arcade Cabinets present, and the way that we solved these. The key takeaway for the talk is to give attendees an insight into what it’s like to develop games for arcade cabinets, showing that it is a viable platform for indie developers, and talking about some common technical and design traps that you might fall into. • Agenda 5:45pm – Guests arrive and network 6:15pm – Hello and introduction to speakers 6:20pm – Topic 1 7:20pm – Networking This is a free event sponsored by Wargaming Sydney for the community.
