What we’re about
Happy Post Mardi Gras week!
We are back… and we have exciting news!
We hope that from Fair Day to the Parade, you had a great Mardi Gras season. Your calls from all over have been heard and we are (finally) starting our weekly meditations again.
So we are happy to announce our first meditation for 2022 is with Peter Hoare on Monday 14 March. We will be in the same venue at the same time as usual. For those who don’t remember, that’s 6.30pm at the Darlinghurst Community Center, 277 Bourke Street.
Not only excited to pick up our weekly practice and provide a safe space to relax and wind down, we are thrilled to announce that the group will also have a new face for this new era. Being conscious that language evolves and that there is a need of more inclusivity and openness in our community, our committee members have come up with a new name: Queer Meditation & Social (Sydney).
We recognise and honour that the word “queer” has been used in the past as a derogatory term and holds memories for some people. Although alike with many LGBTQIA+ community organisations, our aim is to reclaim the word “queer” and as both empowering and uniting of the multiple complex identities within the community. We use the word here as an inclusive term and a shortcut to stating LGBTQIA+ lettering.
This new name reflects well what our group is about. On the one hand meditation for all (queer) people under the rainbow umbrella, on the other hand we are also known for our social mission of bringing people together for meaningful social interactions after meditation practice.
Lastly, we feel extremely grateful for the help and support all of you have provided throughout all the years. To keep variation in guests guiding our meditations, we are continuously looking for new people. Reach out to our committee members if you know someone that would be interested or if you yourself want to guide the group.
See you on 14 March!

Revealing and Letting Go Meditation with Harley Conyer
Darlinghurst Community Space , 277 Bourke Street, Darlinghurst, Sydney, AUBeneath our conscious awareness lies an ancient survival system common to all mammals - the autonomic nervous system.
In this meditation, inspired by principles from Psychedelic Somatic Interactional Psychotherapy (PSIP), we’ll gently turn inward to notice the subtle layers of tension, control, and mental effort that protects us from feeling deeply.
Together, we’ll slow down and bring mindful attention to these patterns, exploring with curiosity and compassion what happens when we invite them to soften or let go.
This can allow the body to reveal what it's been guarding.—not as something dangerous, but as something deeply human and ready to be seen. This is not about fixing or pushing through, rather uncovering the truth that already lives within.
Harley Conyer is a psychedelic psychotherapist specialising in addiction, trauma, gender and sexuality identity, depression, anxiety, spiritual emergence, life transitions, and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).
He has a long history of practicing and teaching meditation. You can find out more about Harley's work at www.psychedelicsomatictherapy.com.au
Afterwards, you're welcome to join us for dinner, drinks and a chat at the East Village Hotel.
