What we'll do

We have teamed up with Servian for the last meetup over 2019 and we have two fantastic speakers joining us.

Sam Hancock from Servian;

Sam is the Lead UX Designer at data-first consultancy, Servian. Sam focuses on establishing a fast-paced design process, that is both experimentation and validation heavy. This enables complex, data-driven solutions to be engaging and usable.

Sam has worked for some of the most iconic, data-driven enterprises in Australia including; ASX, Macquarie Bank, Telstra and Cisco.

Talk: The importance of design frameworks.
Many industries operate on complex and idiosyncratic systems. As demand for better design grows, designers who may not have insight or understanding, are more and more likely to work on complex systems used by a small number of experts.

As designers, we are never the experts. The ability to leverage a SMEs insight and knowledge is invaluable. However, challenging the norm and popular opinion should be encouraged in order to obtain the best results.

Putting ALL of your trust in a SME is a dangerous precedent to set.
Sticking to your guns with a set of design frameworks in support can build your way to success.

Hayden Bleasel from Jellypepper;

Hayden Bleasel is a digital product designer and JavaScript developer who currently runs Jellypepper — an award-winning creative studio for startups and tech companies. Before starting Jellypepper, Hayden was Head of Product and Design at Spaceship (the millennial super fund from your Facebook feed) and worked at Palantir on an anti-fraud pilot project for the U.S. DOJ.

Talk: Branding disruptive startups incl. what makes a good brand, the intersection of brand + culture and what you can do as a startup to start creating a brilliant brand without investing heaps of cash
