Glastonbury Tor New Year's Eve Sunset
Details
Glastonbury Tor is a must see on the historical, mythical and mystical tourism trail of the South West, but there is so much more to this Somerset market town.
Starting out from the Market Place in the centre of town we will take in some of the lesser known historical sites of Glastonbury: houses and inns from the medieval period and the remains of the abbey where Abbot Whiting lost his life defending the monastic tradition, as well as other nooks and crannies from the past.
After refreshments in the George and Pilgrim we will set off for the Tor and the sunset
As we climb to the summit of the Tor we will discuss the many and various myths and legends of this inspirational place of pilgrimage and try to sort fact from fiction.
The final sunset of the year will be at 4:11 PM. Hopefully this will provide some wonderful photo opportunities.
As the year draws to a close you may wish to gaze out over the watery landscape of the Somerset levels and contemplate the year ahead.
You will be home in time for your regular New Year’s Eve activities with the satisfaction that this year you have done something just a little bit different.
As is our custom a historical travelogue style article based on Steve's research notes will be sent out to participants after the event. These will allow you to hold onto what you have learned of this remarkable place.
