Forest paths, wild heaths and village history in beautiful North Hampshire
Details
Join us for a richly varied walk through the Forest of Eversley, surrounding heathland and historic villages of north Hampshire. The route explores woodland and open heath near Eversley, where Victorian writer Charles Kingsley wrote The Water Babies. We’ll pass through Hartley Wintney, known for its independent shops, expansive village green, duck pond, historic buildings, oaks planted in 1807 after the Battle of Trafalgar, and Hampshire’s oldest cricket club. We then cross Hazeley Heath, famed for its rare wildlife, reminders of its wartime past, and views towards the grand Bramshill Estate. Following the River Whitewater, we pass gardens and botanical plants before stopping at Dipley Mill and a beautiful 15th-century timbered church, ending with an optional, well-earned drink at a local pub.
