What we’re about
Active/Athletic Singles 40s/50s/60s
I am organizing a new group for ATHLETIC, SINGLE, FUN, OUTDOORSY, individuals that like to enjoy the outdoors in what some people say is one of the most beautiful places on the planet. Let’s be thankful and explore together!
The goal is to provide adventures that allow people to get to know each other and help people discover new places and ideas. Individuals will connect through fun, shared experiences either in person or on-line (depending on COVID restrictions).
Activities can include (but aren't limited to): hiking, camping, skiing, snowshoeing, travel, happy hours, dinner parties, BBQ's, breweries, comedy clubs, etc. Online activities may include slide shows of personal adventures to inspire people to get out and enjoy.
Our hikes and adventures can fit within a variety of distances, skill levels, elevation gains etc. I am recovering from an injured hip so outings that I lead will be limited in intensity for now. However, other members will be encouraged to become trip leaders to organize trips and activities that they think will be fun for you and others.
Steve

Snowshoeing, Pizza and Beer at Oxbow Beer Garden
Oxford Beer Garden, 420 Main St., Oxford, ME, USCelebrate the winter solstice with outdoor fun and great food and drink! Oxbow Beer Garden in Oxford has fabulous trails through their property which are open for xc skiing or snowshoeing depending on conditions, with a beer hut and fire pits way out back in the woods to reward your efforts. The rain on Friday will probably mean snowshoes will be the gear of the day Sunday, but check back for updates Sunday morning. There's a chance of fresh snow overnight Saturday so we might be pleasantly surprised. You must have snowshoes or skis to use their trails - bare boots wreck the surface.
After working up an appetite on the trails, enjoy their fabulous wood-fired pizza with its delicious Maine Grains sourdough crust - it's some of the best pizza In Maine. There are always other creative options on the menu as well, and a huge selection of great Belgian style beer and farmhouse ales. If you don't have time for the trails and just want to come for the food and drink, arrive on the later side of the 2-5 timeframe and catch us back at the barn. There's indoor seating, or outdoors by the firepits or in the post and beam pavilions - it's a fun, relaxed atmosphere and always a good time.
Check out their Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/oxbowbeergarden/ or website: https://oxbowbeer.com/location/oxford/ for more information about Oxbow and the Beer Garden.

Ski at Sugarloaf - Alpine or Nordic
Sugarloaf USA, 5092 Sugarloaf Access Road, Carrabassett Valley, ME, USRing in the new year with a ski day at Maine's best mountain, Sugarloaf (sorry SR fans, but it's true! :-). Right now alpine tickets are a steal at $86 for the day but you have to book fast because the price goes up (a lot) the closer you get to the date. If your plans change you can turn in your ticket for credit up to midnight the day before, or if you don't like conditions on the day of you can exchange it for credit within your first hour of skiing. (Credits expire at the end of this ski season.)
Nordic tickets are $30, and an extra $30 if you need rental gear. There are 50km of groomed trails, an Olympic ice skating rink and snowshoe trails available as well. Bring all your gear and take your pick or do it all! If you haven't been there, the Sugarloaf Outdoor Center has the best xc skiing in Maine or New Hampshire - groomed for both skate and classic. I may be biased but I've skied all over and you can't beat the wilderness feel and great grooming at Sugarloaf. Plus there's the awesome Bull Moose Cafe for great food and hot drinks to warm up by the woodstove with a fantastic view of the downhill trails (the cover photo for this event).
Go to www.sugarloaf.com to get your online ticket in advance or for more info. I'll most likely be Nordic skiing for the day but if there are downhill skiers interested we'll arrange for y'all to meet up and ski together. As we get closer I'll add more info in the comments about how to find me, etc. Send me a message when you RSVP if you'd like to carpool with others and I'll see what can be arranged.

Snowshoe & XCSki at Oxbow Beer Garden in Oxford, Maine
Oxford Beer Garden, 420 Main Street, Oxford, ME, USCome out for a great day outdoors at the Oxbow Beer Garden in Oxford (420 Main Street, Oxford). The facility features groomed trails for snowshoes and cross-country skis (rentals available on site). Best of all, there is a beer hut partway through the trails offering beer, hot beverages, fire pits and Adirondack chairs.
After being out on the trails, those who are interested can head back to the farmhouse to enjoy pizza and beer and other items from the menu. Oxbow offers seating both indoors and outdoors (again, with the fire pits and Adirondacks). It has a very chill vibe and the trails, beer and food are all really good. I've done this a bunch of times with friends and we always have a great time.
Here's the link to the website so you can check it out for yourself: https://oxbowbeer.com/location/oxford/
Right now, I've tentatively set this for Saturday January 24th. That date might well change, depending on weather and trail conditions. For now, go ahead and sign up if you're interested and look for updates on the group page as we approach the proposed date. Each person who has RSVP’d will also receive a notification via MeetUp of any changes. Hope to see you there!45 attendees
