The 76th annual Charles P. Steinmetz Memorial Lecture being held at Union College in Schenectady will be presenting a lecture by Steven J. Sasson, the inventor of the first portable digital camera and viewing system. Mr. Sasson graduated from RPI with a degree in electrical engineering.
In December 1975, Kodak engineer Steve Sasson created the first portable digital camera, a toaster-sized, 8-pound (3.6 kg) prototype that used a CCD sensor to capture
0.01-megapixel black-and-white images. Assembled from scavenged parts, it recorded images onto a cassette tape in 23 seconds and required a separate TV for playback.

The lecture will be held at the Nott Memorial on the Union College campus. Campus maps can be downloaded from the Union College website.
