Après Happy Hour Stroll in Peñasquitos Canyon with stops to look for Comet Swan and migrating wildlife while trendily tramping via the Japanese Walking Method.

Comet Swan is visible with binoculars in the southwestern sky after sunset. Skies look clear for Wednesday October 1st!

You can often find deer in the canyon, and rumor has it that it's the season of love 💞 for our eight legged friends. You see, when a boy tarantula wants to meet a girl tarantula, he goes a-courting to find his furry mate! If we're lucky we'll see one or two - this will not be a local Arachnophobia thriller!

The Japanese Walking Method alternates regular walking with (relatively for us) faster bursts, which recently has been shown to provide more health benefits than normal or fast walking alone. We're not going to kill it, please join, no one will be left behind!

Bring comfortable walking shoes, flashlights or headlamps, and binoculars. I'll have some to share, and there will be plenty of light to go around if you don't have one. I'll bring my new Streamlight for a short test drive - that should be able to illuminate anything we like! The trails are reasonably walkable.

Enter Canyonside Park at 12350 Black Mountain Road, San Diego 92129, just an 8 minute drive from our Happy Hour at Knotty Barrel!

Take the driveway straight to the left of the ballfields and drive back to Field 8 at the end. The road turns to the right there, and that's where we park. There is a Peñasquitos Canyon Trailhead there. There are multiple loop trails to explore.
