### Meetup: Waccamaw River Park Nature Stroll

The Plan: An easy, flat, and scenic loop through the floodplain forest, offering plenty of opportunities for conversation and enjoying the natural surroundings.
1. The Meet-Up Spot

  • Gather at the main trailhead parking lot.
  • The specific landmark to look for is the rustic wooden sign pictured in the image that reads "WACCAMAW RIVER PARK - TRAILHEAD."
  • This area is right next to the parking lot and portable restrooms, making it a convenient and obvious place for everyone to assemble, do introductions, and wait for latecomers.
  • 2. Starting Out: The group will head out together across the wooden footbridge shown in the photo, which crosses a small creek and leads directly onto the trail system.
  • The Route: The park features a network of interconnected, generally flat dirt trails. For a 1-hour walk, you can follow a large outer loop.
  • Begin by taking the trail that parallels the Waccamaw River. This section offers beautiful views of the slow-moving blackwater river, impressive cypress trees draped in Spanish moss, and coastal wetlands. It's a great backdrop for easy conversation.
  • After following the river for a while, curve inland onto the wooded trails. You'll walk through a peaceful hardwood and pine forest. You will likely see baskets from the disc golf course woven into the woods along the path.
  • Terrain & Pace: The terrain is flat but natural, so expect dirt paths that may have some tree roots or be a bit muddy depending on recent rain. The pace should be slow and social, allowing for chatting and photo-taking. A 2-mile loop at this pace will fit perfectly within the timeframe.

3. Wrap-Up

  • The loop will bring you back to the original wooden bridge and the parking lot area.
  • This is a good final opportunity for the group to chat, exchange contact info, or plan the next meetup before heading out.
  • Foootwear -wear comfortable, closed-toe shoes suitable for walking on dirt trails that might be muddy.
  • Layer up- check the weather and dress accordingly
  • Facilities: There are portable restrooms located near the parking lot, but none out on the trails.
