Step into a cozy, wine-filled soirée where French art, culture, and community take center stage in a casual, fun environment.
Salon des Arts is an informal, drop-in gathering designed to celebrate French and francophone culture in all its forms. We hope you will join us for this cultural open-mic to mingle and share food, music, art, or stories.
Guests are warmly encouraged, but never required, to share something they love: a favorite French song (live or recorded), a short poem or excerpt of literature, a dish they've prepared (or picked up), or a work of art. You are even welcome to share a brief, TED-style presentation on a cherished place, historical figure, or fictional character. Whether you’d like to sign up to share when you arrive, or reserve a spot in advance, all forms of thoughtful expression are welcome.
At the heart of the evening is community: a relaxed, open space for French speakers and enthusiasts of all levels to connect, converse, and enjoy complimentary French wines in a convivial atmosphere.
Whether you're here to present, to practice your French, or simply to enjoy good company, Salon des Arts offers a unique space to engage with the richness of francophone culture.
Join us at the home of AFSeattle members, Micaiah Evans and Kate Gentry, to meet other Francophiles and learn more about various French-speaking cultures! View full event details on our website! Hello Francophones and French learners! Join us in person at the Alliance Française de Seattle for a classic French exercise: la dictée. This session features an excerpt from the iconic French author Colette. Known for her vivid depictions of Parisian life and strong female characters, Colette was a literary voice of the early 20th century. This session celebrates her legacy and ties into our Gala theme: La Belle Époque—a time of beauty, art, and cultural blossoming.
This dictée is non-competitive and recommended for fluency levels of B1 or above.Location
Good Shepherd Center, 4649 Sunnyside Ave N Suite 205, Seattle WA 98103How does it work?
- RSVP below: free for AF members / $5 non-members
- Pen and paper will be provided on-site.
- AFSeattle instructor Pauline Chateau will be reading the text of the dictée. There are several readings:
- First reading: to discover the text in its entirety (not a dictation).
- Dictation: Pauline will read the text slowly, and participants will write down the text as best they can. Usually, sentences and paragraphs are read at least twice at a slow pace.
- Final reading: to hear the complete text again and look over any forgotten words, mistakes, and punctuation marks.
- Pauline will then lead the correction session and reveal the original text. Participants can follow and correct their own versions. This is the time to discuss new vocabulary, compare mistakes or successes, and have fun as a group!
A chance to win a prize!
All attendees will get a chance to win the book from the dictée during a random draw at the end of the event.
