Description: Continuing a series of mostly moderate hikes covering all of the CT AT (sections averaging 5-8 miles each), this approx. 5.5-mile hike (avg. pace 1.8-2 mph) starts on the Mohawk Trail. Beginning with a 0.5 mile ascent up Breadloaf Mt. to the view, the hike will descend to catch the AT, then head north for 1 mile on moderate terrain. After passing the Pine Knob Loop southern junction, the AT ascends moderately for about 0.3 miles to Pine Knob for a narrow view of the Housatonic Valley. We'll take a break at the rocky out crop on the Pine Knob Loop Trail, a short distance off the AT. Returning to the AT, the trail ascends a series of knobs, crosses two streams and more rocky area, and then descends to cars. The terrain is moderate but expect a lot of ups and downs. Rain and/or extreme heat cancels; RAIN DATE: June 29. No dogs, please. Bring snacks and plenty of water. REGISTRATION WILL BE LIMITED due to small parking areas at both trailheads (car spotting is required.). Leader will provide more details and exact parking directions to registered hikers the day before the hike morning.
