Description: REGISTRATION REQUIRED & wearing blaze orange/bright colors recommended for this easy/moderate point to point 6.6 mi/679' hike on the Menunkatuck Trail (CT NET sect. 8) & optional Bluff Head loop (+1.7 mi/364'). Please meet at the Bluff Head Trail Head Parking lot on Durham Rd/RT 77 (41.407956, -72.696479) at 8 am . We will then consolidate to carpool to the NET trailhead on RT 80 (5 miles, 8 min away). This hike is described as "a wonderful ramble through a rolling woodland. Cross streams and follow woods roads for a pleasant walk through unique and wonderful diversity." We will hike N on the Menunkatuck Tr at 1.5-2 mph. Staying on the NET, we'll meet up with the Mattabesett Tr to traverse the Broomstick Ledges to the Bluff Head parking lot. For those interested, we'll hike the BH loop CCW, going up the steepest section to be rewarded with a nice view. Roots, rocks, potentially muddy in spots so sturdy hiking shoes with good traction required & hiking poles suggested. Please bring 10 essentials including water (1.5 liter+), snacks/lunch, sunscreen & personal meds/first aid items. Heavy rain cancels.
