Description: About 6 miles and 800 ¢ cumulative elevation gain. This is a shortened version of a very popular CT Trails Day hike I have been leading for years and puts the Mt. York ascent at the beginning instead of the end of the hike. It includes both the Quinnipiac and Regicides Trails, two of the CFPA Blue Trails. We will park and meet at the intersection of Rayzoe Terrace (a dead end) and W. Shepard Rd. in Hamden. (“Street Parking for West Rock Ridge State Park” in Google Maps) From the trailhead, we will take the Regicides Trail to ascend York Mountain at elevation of 680 ¢ . From the summit, we will proceed on the Quinnipiac Trail along High Rock ridge with westward views. We will then descend and proceed at a lower elevation through a tall pine forest to the Sanford Feeder Trail. From the top of the Sanford Feeder, we will take the abandoned Baldwin Road southward and then pick up the Regicides Trail roughly parallel to Baldwin Drive for the return trip to the trailhead, with both westward and eastward viewpoints. There is a steep rock scramble at the beginning and participants should be accustomed to long hikes of 5 miles or more. Bring one to two quarts of water for hot weather. Arrive by 8:45 for 9:00 a.m. start. Leashed dogs okay. Registration requested. For more information, contact Dennis Jakiela at djakiela56@outlook.com, 203-710-1406.
