What we’re about
The Boston Chapter Bicycle Committee offers a wide variety of rides to cyclists of all abilities in the greater Boston area and beyond. We have day rides, evening rides, weekend in the mountains or on the Vineyard rides, short rides, long rides, easy rides, advanced rides-something for almost every one.
We also get together socially after the rides or at the annual rally and offer workshops where all can learn to fix a flat, adjust the brakes and ride safely and responsibly.
Our purpose is to bring cyclists together in a friendly social atmosphere in which people can acquire new skills and enhance old ones. Our leaders are all volunteers who have mapped out routes on some of the area's most beautiful byways.
Most of our rides provide a lead and a sweep, as well as a cue sheet and/or map. We do our best to keep you on track as well as to keep you safe! Helmets are required on all our rides. We also group rides into easy, intermediate or advanced, so that you can ride with others at a similar pace.

Audience: AdultsDescription: This bicycling event is for any AMC member or guest who want to experience a ride in Boston that links together the many bike paths and lanes into a loop around the city. The ride loops around the city for about 35 miles using mostly dedicated bike paths and protected bike lanes, with a few road connections between some entry points, allowing the rider to enjoy the many sights. We’ll go at a more relaxed pace since most of the ride follows Boston’s bike path network, with stops to cross streets at various crosswalks. We’ll plan to make a few stops along the way at various points of interest and for a lunch break. The route is primarily flat, with the exception of a section around Franklin Park.
The ride will start at City Square Park in Charlestown, where we will follow the bike path along the Charles River. We will then join another bike path along the Fenway and Emerald Necklace to Jamaica Pond. The ride then continues through the Arnold Arboretum to a lunch break in Jamaica Plain, then traverses back through a slice of Franklin Park before joining the bike path along the Neponset River. At the end of the Neponset River bike path, we link with the bike path along Boston Harbor starting at UMass-Boston up to the Greenway. Then, our last leg will follow the Greenway to the bike path along Atlantic Avenue, ending back at City Square Park. Registration is required to keep the group to a manageable size for this type of ride. All riders will need a bike in good working order with a spare tire, and at least one water bottle (two preferred). For planning purposes, note that this AMC group ride usually takes about 4.5 hours to complete,Reminder: Please click the RSVP link above to register!

Audience: EveryoneDescription: Join us for a wonderful bike tour from historic Salem back to Charlestown via mostly bike paths through the historic and bucolic towns of the near north shore. We will meet at North Station and use the MBTA to take us up to Salem for our 31-mile jaunt back to Charlestown. Highlights will include Salem, Marblehead, the tip of Castle Rock, Swampscott and the marshes of Lynn, Saugus and Evererett via the new-ish Northern Strand Bike Trail. We will have a sumptuous lunch at the K Pub Kitchen and Bar just off the bike trail in Saugus that has a unique fusion Asian-American menu. This ride is easy to moderate, at a relaxed moving pace of 10-12 mph. Bikers will be expected to be ready for paved to packed gravel surfaces. Bikes from road bikes (with good handling skills) to hybrids are fine. Bikers are expected to be able to handle minor repairs such as flat tires and have appropriate clothing/gear to handle early fall conditions and be able to carry extra clothing if the weather indicates it. Helmets required, Hi-Viz clothing and rear red Blinky lights highly recommended. Riders will self pay for the $8.00 MBTA train fare, lunch and any parking required. Ride will run in event of mildly adverse weather. Sustained rain will cancel the ride. The MBTA train leaves North Station at 0930 SHARP and arrives Salem at 1002, fare is $8. Address of N STA is MBTA North Station, 186 Canal St., Boston. Riders who want to meet us at the Salem MBTA when the train arrives at 10:04 are welcome to join the team. You can take the train from North Station back to Salem in the afternoon (trains leave North Station at 2:30pm, 3:30pm, 4:30pm and 5:30pm).
