Summer Day Hike on the Arden Point and Glenclyffe Loop Trails (Moderate)

Details

Let's enjoy a summer day hike in Garrison, NY. If you've been on hikes with me in the past, then you might remember that I absolutely love this area for a short day hike not far from NYC. Read on for the details if you'd like to join me.

We will begin our hike of just under 4 miles from the trailhead. We'll start on the Glenclyffe Loop Trail which meanders through scenic woodlands that connect us back to the Arden Point Trail. We'll then follow the winding trail along the Hudson River leading to a rocky bluff known as Arden Point where you have wonderful river views both north and south, including a a view of West Point on the opposite shore.

Combined, these trails make for a great beginner hike for anyone looking to venture out of the city and enjoy an lovely walk in the woods without being too far away from civilization.

Although the trails aren't too technical, we will have plenty of rocks, roots, and a few sections that'll require a bit of uphill climb - as well as mud. We will take our time through those sections and take breaks as needed. Feel free to reach out to me if you are interested in attending, even as a beginner hiker.

Transportation options:
Public Transportation - MetroNorth train to Garrison Station. Link to train station: https://new.mta.info/schedules (Please note the links are provided as a courtesy. Attendee is ultimately responsible for their transportation and related costs to and from the hike.)

Tidbits of Info:

  • Meeting at the trailhead located at the end of the Garrison Station Parking lot.
  • New to hiking? Here is a link that hopefully answers your gear questions: https://amc-ny.org/hiking-faqs/
  • Pack lunch and snacks. I recommend carrying no less than 2-3 liters of water as well as bringing electrolytes.
  • Please dress for the weather! Wear layers that you can adjust for comfort. There will be several parts of tree cover and sun exposure - wear sunscreen, bring a wide brimmed hat and bug spray.
  • If you have them, bring your trekking poles/walking sticks and wear sturdy waterproof/resistant hiking shoes.
  • There are no bathrooms on the trail or at the train station.
  • Please note, this is a social hike with a steady pace and we will have multiple opportunities to take snack breaks and photos.

FYI: Severe weather cancels the hike and we would try to reschedule.
