Reconnect with nature, explore new trails, and be a part of the AMC outdoor community—all without a car!

Join AMC’s Concrete to Trails Bus Trips
Discover wild places just beyond the city limits—no Uber, Lyft or train ticket required! Appalachian Mountain Club’s Concrete to Trails program offers weekly Saturday bus trips from New York City to stunning natural areas that are typically hard to reach without a vehicle. Whether you're a seasoned hiker or simply seeking fresh air and new views, these outings make it easy to escape the pavement and step into nature.

On this occasion we will return to Harriman State Park for a four hour hike (about 5.5 miles and 1,250 feet elevation gain.) We will travel on the Appalachian Trail as well as the Long Path on our route. The activity is rated as moderate per AMC activity guidelines and you do not need to have experience hiking to join the group. This route will be on uneven terrain of varying surfaces and we will be exposed to the Earth's elements. Please be prepared to spend our time outside while being active with intermittent breaks. We take one 'proper' break on the trip at approximately the mid-way point of our time together.

What to Bring:

  • Sturdy hiking footwear
  • Weather appropriate clothing
  • 2+ liters of water
  • Lunch and/or snacks
  • Sun protection (clothing, hat, sunblock)
  • Bug protection (lotion or spray)
