Start your New Year off with a bang ... or a Hike! Whether you are new to the Appalachian Mountain Club or you are a long-time member, come join fellow outdoor lovers by heading into the woods on the First Day of 2026!

We'll ease into the new year with a loop hike from the train station in Sloatsburg, NY. If there are enough drivers to carpool to Reeves Meadow Visitor Center (soon to be a Community Hub!) then we will hike out and back on the Pine Meadow Trail. If not, we will walk a mile in the local neighborhood to the Pine Meadow trailhead, which will be our route until we're ready to head back along the Seven Hills Trail. There will be reasonable breaks and a brief lunch stop. This is a quiet section of the park that is usually quite busy, so we can enjoy the feeling of a winter walk in the woods.

Bring traction devices, eg micro spikes. Dress for cold weather conditions and pack extra layers, warm hat and gloves/mittens. Bring at least 1 liter of water, lunch, and snacks.

Please self-assess your skills, experience and equipment before registering for this trip. While this hike is rated Easy, winter conditions will make it more challenging than during the other seasons. Hope to see you there!

Meeting Time: 10:30 am (Please be on time so folks aren't waiting in the cold) at Sloatsburg Train Station Parking Lot
Departure Time: 10:35 am
Return Time: 2:30 pm

Pace: approx. 2 mph, depending on winter conditions
Terrain: rocky & uneven with possibility of snow & ice
Distance: 5-7 miles
Elevation: 700-1,000 feet

This event is accessible by public-transportation! Scheduled times are subject to change by the transit companies. Leader will in the front of the bus.
